Annual Meeting

The Annual Meeting Committee organizes annual meetings so that chapter members from around the state can meet in-person once per year.

Bylaws

The Bylaws Committee continually updates the chapter bylaws that govern how we operate.

Education/Training

The Education/Training Committee plans and facilitates solid waste management educational and training courses. These courses are designed to train individuals in the solid waste industry on managing and operating solid waste facilities including landfills, composting operations, and recycling facilities. After participants complete the trainings and pass their associated exams, they receive certifications that correspond to the training they completed. The committee is determined to stay up-to-date on the most recent best practices and technologies to be implemented in solid waste management.

Legislative

The Legislative Committee researches solid waste ballot initiatives in New Mexico and around the country. Through this research, new ballot initiatives are drafted and proposed for the state of New Mexico, or the committee participates in the passage of bills that improve the sustainability or safety of the industry. The committee updates the larger group on any legislative updates.

Nominating

The Nominating Committee is responsible for holding elections for board leadership.

ROAD-E-O

The ROAD-E-O Committee plans and facilitates the annual ROAD-E-O event. ROAD-E-O is a friendly competition between representatives from various solid waste facilities around the state. During the competition, equipment operators complete obstacle courses that test their precision and dexterity. More information can be found on the SWANA Website.

Round Tables

The Round Tables Committee organizes discussions on issues and developments in the solid waste industry, such as safety and sustainability.

Safety

The Safety Committee researches the best safety practices and advises solid waste operators on implementing these practices at facilities around the state. This committee is dedicated to reducing the frequency of casualties that occur at solid waste facilities, making a safer industry for everyone.

Scholarships/Stipends

The Scholarships/Stipends Committee works on funding scholarships for university students studying in fields related to solid waste management to support the next generation of employees.

Young Professionals

The SWANA YP Group provides a structured bridge from an entry-level to a mid-career leader in the resource management industry. The group aims to develop a pool of well-rounded leaders for the future of our industry and provide a platform to elevate new ideas and initiatives from the youngest members of the industry.

The SWANA Young Professionals support the mission of SWANA to advance from solid waste management to resource management by offering YP focused programs designed to foster interest in industry-related careers, encourage active involvement in the industry, and develop young SWANA members into future leaders of the association.
